"...But, it's for homeschool!!!"

Hello parents, homeschoolers, and the like... 

If you are a frequent visitor to our page, you've undoubtedly seen a recent post about keeping costs at a minimum. But what kind of woman/mom/teacher would I be if I told you that I only spend wisely. 

A lying one. But I'm telling the truth now. I did spend a little more than I should have last month. Only by $9.00 - and truth be told, I could have saved even more if I had upcycled some of the extra bulletin boards we have at home. But, I wanted this item to serve two purposes. And it does!

With the costs at the forefront of my mind - I'll lay them out for you here. 
Bulletin board - $9.97
Two cans of Chalk Board Spray paint - $3.97 each. 
Happiness in my heart when I see my kids using this 'old school' style writeable - PRICELESS! 

I grew up in a small town. About 500 students from Pre-K through 12th grade. Green chalkboards were in every room. Chalkboard dust on fingers, a sharpened tooth at the accidental rake of a fingernail on the board. No, none of these whiteboards that fill the halls of public schools now days. And we do use white boards in our homeschool. But I wanted them to see and feel how it used to be back in my day. 

I only wish I had taken pictures before to document the process, but it is as easy as paint - LITERALLY! 

Outdoors, I placed the bulletin board cork side down - because it will serve as a bulletin board when needed. 
Following the directions on the spray paint can, I began painting what would become our classroom black board. 
A simple order from Teachers Express in Paragould for a chalk chuck (handy tool for holding chalk) and some white chalk and we are in business. 

The kids have enjoyed writing on it, but I think they prefer the white boards. KM on the other hand, loves chalk and goes through several containers of sidewalk chalk each season. She enjoys writing on the board, too!
